CDC’s Maddington Data Centre

Perth, WA

WA Universal supported CDC’s Maddington Data Centre build with the introduction of our largest luffing tower cranes—two COMANSA CML800 units. Operating with 60m jibs, both cranes delivered reliable heavy-lift performance across the programme, enabling efficient handling of substantial precast elements. With capacity up to 11t at a 60m radius, the CML800s became central to maintaining lifting momentum.

The Challenge

Data centre construction demands repeatable precision, tight sequencing, and dependable lifting capacity for heavy structural components. The site required sustained handling of large precast units throughout the build, with lifts occurring at extended radius. Any downtime or under-capacity equipment would introduce delays and risk to the critical path. The solution needed strong load charts at reach, stable operation, and consistent performance day after day.

Our Approach

We deployed two COMANSA CML800 luffing tower cranes, configured with 60m jibs to match site geometry and lift requirements. Our team planned lift coverage, coordinated closely with the builder, and established operating rhythms aligned to precast delivery and installation sequences. By focusing on reliable access, safe lifting protocols, and proactive scheduling, we kept the cranes productive and the project moving with minimal disruption.

The Result

The twin CML800 deployment delivered the capacity and reach the project demanded, supporting ongoing installation of heavy precast units and maintaining strong lift productivity. With each crane capable of 11t at 60m radius, the site gained consistent coverage across key work fronts, reducing bottlenecks and helping keep structure works on programme. The result was a safer, smoother, more predictable lifting operation.
